EPLAN Platform
Engineering software for automation technology and power systems

The EPLAN Platform: a foundation for efficient engineering

The EPLAN Platform brings together software solutions for various engineering disciplines. Using piping and instrumentation diagrams, electrical schematics, detailed evaluations, control cabinet layouts in 3D and machine cabling in 3D, a complete digital twin of the automation systems for your machine or plant system is created in the process.

EPLAN is the standard for electrical engineering. The easy exchange of projects allows plant operators to work together with machine and plant system manufacturers as well as their control cabinet manufacturers using a standardised foundation of data.

Having a free choice between graphic and data-oriented working methods makes it easy for different user groups to integrate EPLAN into their everyday work. Electrical engineering designs can be easily standardised with flexible circuit templates and subcircuits. Recurring circuits can be stored in libraries and combined into new schematics specific to each current project.

EPLAN Platform 2027

Ideas beyond boundaries. Reliable project execution.

With the new EPLAN Platform 2027, we are driving forward innovation in engineering. The latest version helps users carry out planning and project design tasks more easily and make more consistent use of existing data. At the same time, it builds seamlessly on the revised portfolio structure introduced in the previous version. This allows you to give free rein to your creativity in all aspects of engineering.

Users benefit from numerous new features that provide optimal support in their day-to-day work. For example, automating wiring and wire-end processing from control cabinet planning right through to production, or meeting the diverse requirements of preliminary planning. Handling component data is simpler and more informative than ever before: visualising, synchronising, filtering or comparing information – all can be done with just a few clicks.

EPLAN Platform 2027 Highlights

Fast connections with automated wiring and wire-connection handling

Sometimes a wire isn’t just a wire in engineering, and not every wire end sleeve fits the end of every wire. This is yet another reason to automate wire-connection handling to save valuable time – not just during the project planning phase, but also in the subsequent wire assembly process.

The new EPLAN Version 2027 provides useful support in this area: wire end sleeves can be assigned according to the specific class of wire and clearly documented for automated or manual wire assembly. Where a great deal of work by hand was previously required, the new assignment possibilities for wires and end sleeves increase the automation and efficiency in device management.

Higher-performance preplanning for all industry-specific requirements

Before getting to the detail engineering, preplanning plays an important role in many fields – particularly in sectors such as energy, building technology and the process industry. EPLAN Preplanning 2027 is coming with a wide range of improvements that enable faster and easier preplanning and support nearly all industry-specific requirements.

Macro variants for P&ID, for instance, will be able to easily be swapped using a right mouse click. The software will also be offering a new dialogue box for managing P&ID-specific planning objects and, for the macro swap, automatically asks what status the replaced measurement points should be assigned.

The new version will naturally further increase the level of automation in the design process, thus enhancing the user experience. One of the things this includes is the automatic alignment of symbols along the path of auto-connect lines – horizontal or vertical – as well as the automatic display of flow directions with arrows. Moving forward, there will also be no need to manually place symbols at pipe intersections because the software automatically displays the intersection in accordance to norms and standards.

Cross-references can now also be assigned separately for each discipline – electric, pneumatic and P&ID – during the planning process.

More powerful device management

Which motor has which power rating to match my design? With the new dialogue box in the device management of EPLAN Electric P8, you can quickly compare the differences between two or more devices to find the right one. Synchronising identical devices that contain different information in a project and the device database will also become child’s play: a new dialogue box ensures your data remains clearly organised.

Speaking of speed, information about linked devices is immediately available in the new version of the software: associated components can be displayed directly below one another and linked to the device management tree. Has a device been discontinued and is no longer available? Starting in Version 2027, to ensure that replacing these devices runs smoothly in EPLAN Electric P8 during the project planning phase, users can view the update in the BOM navigator and click directly to the replacement device.

Expanded Graphic Editor for better organisation and overviews

Do you use tags when creating schematics? Then you’ll really enjoy the upcoming version of the software. The EPLAN Electric P8 Insert Center will have at your service an intuitive tag management system that goes well beyond the usual creation and selection of tags. The new dialogue box gives you a complete overview of your tags at all times providing for easy organisation. Which tags are already being used, where, and how often? And which objects are linked to them? The new management options offer maximum transparency for your new and already used tags, not to mention plenty of flexibility to create, assign, delete, rename, group, export and import tags – everything is in one location without any time-consuming searching.

What exactly does the component or macro contain? In the new version you will also benefit from more information and a clearer overview of your devices in the Insert Center. In addition to the selected component, the preview now also displays all components associated with the one selected and their functional templates – for instance all contacts on the motor overload switch. This allows you to easily browse through your devices and see at first glance what they’re comprised of.

Synchronize your parts with the cloud

The updated Data Management in the EPLAN Cloud consolidates the management of all relevant data types into a single, centralized app (projects, parts data, master data).

All three functions are clearly organised within a single application and can be easily accessed via tabs. You can switch seamlessly between the different areas at any time without interrupting your workflow or having to switch apps.

First glances into engineering with the EPLAN Platform

High-quality electrical schematics

Quickly and easily create high-quality and informative schematics with structure identifiers, automatic cross-references, device information, technical device data and connection numbering. Based on this data, EPLAN also automatically generates reports including bills of materials, terminal diagrams and wire lists to complete your project documentation. Changes in the schematics are synchronised throughout the project so that your documentation always remains up to date and consistent.

Diagram creation

For creating diagrams for process engineering and technology (P&I diagrams, control diagrams), project data can be digitally recorded and consistently managed early in the process. The data entered by the process designers and engineers can be seamlessly forwarded to detail engineering, resulting in more efficient project implementation.

Wire harness in a forklift

Wire harnesses and wiring systems are complex. Limited space, moving components and the requirements for longevity are challenges to be mastered. With EPLAN, you don’t need to build an actual prototype to make sure that everything will fit in the vehicle.
